GORIS CAVE

The Goris cave dwellings

The cave settlement in Armenian Cappadocia is a breathtaking natural formation made up of a web of interconnected stone buildings, pillars, caverns, labyrinths, and grottoes.
For many centuries, people hid in these cave systems from the attacks of the Turks, Persians, Seljuks, Arabs and Mongols.
The Goris cave houses are famous for their rain and high humidity. The fog that envelops the mountains makes them all the more mysterious and enigmatic.
The cave cities of Khndzoresk and Tatev Hermitage are relatively close by as well.
