Queen Parandzem of Armenia.
She married Gnel, the nephew of King Arshak II, and their daughter was named Andovk, an Armenian form of the name Antioch. Gnel was a feudal lord of Syunik.
After a crushing loss during an invasion by the Persian army, King Arshak of Armenia was coerced into surrendering to Shah Shapur II the Great. The Shah then urged the queen to visit him in Persia. This prompted Parandzem to take refuge in the fortress of Artagers, where she was under attack by the Persian army along with her treasures, loyal lords of the land, and an army of 11 thousand men and women fought back.
A women’s battalion was named in honor of Queen Parandzem during the Artsakh war. In 1992, while defending the village of Aterk in the Mardakert region, they achieved unmatched glory, successfully halting the summer offensive of the Azerbaijani army in the north of Artsakh.
