BEDOUIN ARAB WOMEN 1915 ABOUT ARMENIAN GENOCIDE

In the city of Batra, the testimony of a Bedouin Arab woman. 1915, Battle of Deir Ezzor

She describes how Chechens and Turkish gendarmes were responsible for the deaths of many Armenians:

“I was born in the desert to an Arab family, and today I am 93 years old.

1915 was the year that I turned 9 years old, and I vividly recall how caravan after caravan of weary Armenian migrants arrived in Deir ez-Zor one after the other. They were miserable due to the effects of hunger and thirst, and they lacked footwear. They assembled themselves at the bridge in Deir ez-Zor and arrived there. We witnessed how Turkish gendarmes and Chechens were responsible for the deaths of a number of them.

The remaining Armenian women were coerced into marrying the Arab sheikhs and elders of our desert communities.

They evolved into respectable mothers who cared for their families. The vast majority of them converted to Islam, but a few of them did not change their religious beliefs.
The stunning appearance of Armenian women pleasantly surprised us. They had beautiful eyes in common. In addition to this, they were known for their even temper, unwavering devotion, and widespread respect. They never made a plea for help.

The Turks tortured and scattered the Armenians across the deserts of Syria, and the local Arabs, moved by compassion for the Armenians’ precarious situation, provided assistance to them.
